My Daily 5 Pocket Chart |
The pocket chart shows which options are available to my students during Daily 5. We currently have 2 rounds of Daily 5 which last about 20 minutes. Students complete Independent Reading first thing in the morning.
One of the options that I use during Word Work is Roll A Sight Word.
One of the options that I use during Word Work is Roll A Sight Word.
Roll A Sight Word |
Who doesn't love dice?
During this activity students can practice their sight words by rolling the dice and writing the sight word based on their roll. I like that I can accommodate this activity based on our learning and/or student need.
Would you like your own copy? I have left it as a PowerPoint document so that you may change the words to fit the needs of your students.
This download is only intended for classroom or home use. It is not intended to be sold, reproduced or duplicated.
Enjoy!
Happy Learning and Teaching!
It worked like a charm! Not sure why that is my new (very old lady-ish) expression. This will work wonderfully into my classroom... Thank you!!!

Thank you for sharing! I am working with the Daily 5 for the first time this year and am looking for ideas that my kindergarteners can do independently. This will work great! Thank you so much for leaving it editable so we can change it throughout the year.

Mrs. Parker,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this. I am always looking for new things to add to my word work rotation. I noticed that you mentioned lite brite. A para at my school mentioned an autistic student that loves the lite brite but she was running out of patterns. Do you make you own? Thanks! Liz
My kinders were using the lite brite to build fine motor skills. Essentially many just liked to place the lites on and turn the light on. Silly, I know but many have never used it so they like it.
ReplyDeleteI have used it in the past as a word work center. I cut out construction paper to fit and wrote the sight words on it. My former student who was autistic liked it. I made multiple copies of the words he knew so that he had lots of practice pages.
Thanks for sharing this! I am going to use it 2 ways- keep the original for sight words and then change the top to read "Roll a Letter" and program it for letters the kids are struggling with!
ReplyDeleteThanks again!
~ Amy
I've use roll a sight word before but never with dice. I love it! Thank you!

Works great! Thanks! I think this will be fun!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU! Everything worked and I printed it with my changes--perfect!

This is wonderful! I play a similar game with my students, but I have always just written sight words on little wooden blocks/cubes and they roll a word and write it on scrap paper. This is much cuter and now I can just use regular dice! I really appreciate you giving us the template so we can adapt it to the sight words we are studying and even differentiate it to use more difficult words for some students. Thank you!

ReplyDeleteThanks very much! I think this will be very helpful.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this!!! I am going to print it out and use it next week for my centers. I think I'll try the roll a letter also. Great ideas!!!
ReplyDeleteTruly amazing! Teaching brand new in a transitional kindergarten class this year I'm always looking for new ideas. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for leaving this as a powerpoint. I can't wait to show this to my kinders! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sheet. I can't wait to use it with my kinders. I feel excited to work with Daily 5. Learning a lot from your blog.

Thank you for this great freebie! Our students loved it.
ReplyDeleteHow do you play this game?
ReplyDeleteMy first grade kiddos loved this! I loved it because every student was able to work independently with success.
ReplyDeleteMy kiddos are loving this game! I am so thankful that you made it so that I can change the sight words as we get new words!

I love this game! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love this and use it in my classroom. I am teaching a (free) staff development for my county to 80 teachers and I am going to (if it is ok) share you printable and link to your site!!!! I know they are going to love it!
ReplyDeletepardon me for missing the obvious but what happens after the student rolls the dice?
ReplyDeleteThey put a check in the box under the word?
Thanks and sorry for missing the obvious but just want to make sure. :)
LOVE it! I changed it up a bit and added our spelling words so that my 1st graders can practice their words a little more. They will enjoy using this activity during centers!! Thanks for sharing and thanks for making it editable. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Angela... then what?
ReplyDeleteIf they roll a 1 then they write the word that is listed in column 1, if they roll a 2 they write the word that is in row 2. They keep going until the fill up a column...at least that is how I would have my kiddos play it.
DeleteYou want them to write the word as many times as possible to help make the learning stick... I hope that helps!
DeleteThanks, Deedee. That is how we play the game. My kids really love seeing which word fills up first. It has enhanced our word study program.
DeleteThanks for sharing this idea! I just bought some big dice with pockets from really good stuff, so this is just perfect. I've also just started blogging too. Please check it out: kindergatenkidsatplay.blogspot.com. I have some sight word flash card freebies.
ReplyDeleteWhen I click to download it is a pdf document. What happened?
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if this has to do with it being editable and someone else changed the share settings. I will upload it again. Sorry.
DeleteI downloaded it, but I can't edit it. Any ideas? I would love to use it in my classroom.
ReplyDeleteI checked the settings and editing is allowed. Please try it again. I hope you'll be able to use it.
DeleteI cannot get it edited either! I love it. Any ideas?
DeleteGreat idea and I love that you enabled us to change the words as needed! If it helps anyone...when I downloaded it I couldn't change anything. I opened it in power point and then hit "save as.." and saved it under a different name. Then I hit "duplicate slide" under edit and had no problems changing the sight words. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeletethis is so great! i teach first grade and it was super easy to add our words for the week! the kiddos are going to love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, I was looking for another activity for my reading/writing learning center. :)
ReplyDeleteJust came across this. I think is great and can't wait to try it. I had an idea for using it to review word families. You could put the word feature into the text box and then when students rolled they add a word from that word family to the chart.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :) it looks like a great tool!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteI made a version to use as a quick game with my HS Spanish class. May I make it available on TPT as a free item and credit you as inspiration? https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1uEt7zYruNUtnjMGFyUyd9dixa5I72vcbps50m6iR11c/edit?usp=sharing
ReplyDeleteHi, Megan,
DeleteI am so happy that you found this useful for your class. This was created for teachers to edit but not meant to share nor used to sell. Although, many similar ones are around this is still the template I created. I would prefer that you not share. Thank you for understanding.
